lyrics

Oklahoma

In nineteen twenty-six, my father started to build.
A farm and a house, a nest for his whole family.
In Oklahoma, hope and promise,
Of gold, of good harvest at least,
Oklahoma, it sounds like a wish,
The brown prairies turn to gold in his dreams.

Firts year was tough,
The weed crop grew up,
And soon, dust clouds appeared.
Don't worry baby, he said to his wife,
My mom', named Emily.

She said.
"But the sand is so abrasif"
And he always answered
"Be sure, it will be better next year.
But pray to the Lord, if you will.
I've a meeting at the bank of Boise City."

More production but it was never enough.
So farmers decided to leave.
Indeed
The prices were falling and the kids were suffocating.
Yet there were no more trees,
When the storm took away Emily.
We learned slowly, didn't we.
Even after having defied gravity.
We learned slowly, didn't we.
Even after having defied gravity.
